It takes a real artist to make a balanced and delicious dessert. Here are the sweet shops you should visit in South Bend.

With all of the daily holidays these days, it should be no surprise that there's a special day just for the best meal of the day: dessert, of course! National Dessert Day takes place in October, sandwiched neatly between summer ice cream and Thanksgiving pumpkin pie. If you're looking for a way to celebrate or just a new place to satisfy your cravings, our real estate agents recommend these amazingly sweet spots in South Bend.

  • South Bend Chocolate Company - 3300 W Sample Street
    We can't talk about sweets without bringing up the South Bend Chocolate Company. If you love traditional chocolate and other sweet shop treats, this will be your new favorite store. They sell everything from chocolate bars and cookies, to gourmet popcorn and chocolate-covered pretzels.     Nothing beats a local ice cream shop with homemade ice cream, the kind of place where the selections are never the same because they make it all in small batches right there. Whistle Stop is that kind of place, and it's located right here in South Bend, so head on over! Check out their signature flavors, which rotate regularly, add toppings, and treat yourself to a delicious handmade cone, too. Who says ice cream is only for the summer months? National Dessert Day says ice cream will be absolutely perfect on October 14th, just as it is on any other day of the year.

    If you're craving ice cream but without the guilt, check out Let's Spoon Froyo. Choose from a wide variety of flavors and toppings in whatever size cup suits your mood: small, medium, or large. Choose from Italian classics such as tiramisu, torta della nonna, and cannolis, as well as mainstream favorites such as cupcakes, cheesecake, and mousse. Macri's also makes a variety of cakes, including special order cakes for weddings and other special occasions. If your mom taught you to eat your meal first, never fear, as Macri's also serves up a variety of Italian pasta and pizzas, as well as other traditional fare.

  • The Ragamuffin - 321 S Main St
    If you're looking for just a good treat shop, check out the Ragamuffin, which offers a variety of baked goods such as cookies, pastries, and bars. They also offer a selection of savory pastries for those with less of a sweet tooth.
